Christmas Day Community Lunch

Waste into Wellbeing hosted a Community Christmas Day Lunch, made possible by an incredible amount of help and support from our community.

Around 50 delicious plates of turkey dinner (with veggie options) were served, complete with all the trimmings – using mostly food that would otherwise have gone to waste. Guests were welcomed with a festive reception from members of the Burneside and Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Bands, along with a complimentary Bucks Fizz on arrival.

Santa even made an appearance (after a very busy night!) to hand out gifts to everyone, including 11 takeaway meals for those who are housebound.

A huge thank you to everyone who peeled and chopped vegetables, donated gifts, decorated and set up the room, helped cook (especially Kate), served guests on the day, entertained everyone, and of course washed up and cleared away afterwards. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you for helping us spread hope and love this Christmas.

Special thanks go to Kate Tordoff; Chris and Justine Sheils; Dave, Katrina and Grace; the staff at Lakeland District Farmers; the Asda Foundation for the edible treat presents; our local surplus food supporters; Kevin Beechcroft; the fabulous members of the Burneside Brass Band and Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band; those who helped with deliveries in and around Kendal; The Busy Bears; and of course Dave Dole – you’re a shining star!
